Aeneid, written by Vergil, is the legend of the Trojan hero Aeneas. The twelve episodes that make up the book describe the events that happened until Trojan hero Aeneas escaped from the Trojan war with his father and survivors until they arrived near Rome and settled down. When Aeneas arrives at Carthage, he tells what happened to Queen Dido. Because of their actions and gods, these two characters Aeneas and Dido form a relationship. In this text, I will mention a few important points about the characters and the relationships.
One of the most important features of Aeneas who survived the siege of Troy was piety. In addition to being a very good fighter, he is a leader who motivates his men very well. He always has a great love for everyone in his heart. He wants to find the Roman race in Italy and continue the Trojan lineage in the land it will establish. Dido, the queen of Carthage, left Tire when her husband was killed by her brother. Although she is a very strong woman, she comes to the game of the gods. Because of his love for Aeneas, his life is ruined and she kills himself with Aeneas’ sword.
Cupid intervenes in the lives of Dido and Aeneas, by order of Venus, fills Dido with Aeneas’s love, and Dido becomes the victim of an unrealistic relationship. Dido, who swears that she will not marry anyone after her husband’s death, succumb to her love for Aeneas. Juno sees Dido’s love as a tool to prevent Aeneas from traveling to Italy, and Juno brings them together in a cave. They live their relationship in a cave. While Dido tries to persuade Aeneas to marry, Aeneas must leave Carthage. Jupiter reminds Aeneas of his fate, and Aeneas faces the fact that he must obey the Gods. Dido cannot withstand Aeneas’ departure. On the bed they sleep in together, he kills himself with the sword of Aeneas.
All in all, one of Aeneas’ characteristic features, religiousness pushes Aeneas’ to respect the gods and damages his relationship with Dido as well as Dido. Dido, on the other hand, fell in love with someone he discovered that they had only in common. The relationship that begins with the influence of the gods ends with the sad death of Dido.
